I got my licence in 1967, only 16 years old.

I started up with a home brewed transmitter and a Heath Kit receiver. My antenna was a bamboo stick with some wires, tuned for  20 m.

I never got it to work properly, and I lost interest in radio for many years. Girls ,cars  ect. .

When I built my house in 1977, I got room for a radio shack, and a antenna outside, and started up again with my hobby. My first transceiver was a Icom 701, and a tower with a Cushcraft ATB 34. The propagation was super at that time, I was on the radio a lot.

In 1981 my first son Sjúrður was born, and two years later  Mourits, and they kept me busy for some years, and radio was not first priority.

In 1988 there was a tremendous hurricane over the Faroes, and my beem  and  rotator was destroyed. I never was QRV from that location again.

In 1991 the whole family went to Denmark to live. I got a new education as Chef, it took 4 years, and my wife went to school learning more about her line of job as a secretary. During this time I got a Danish call sign OZ8OY, operating with my old Icom 701, and a Cushcraft multi band vertical. I must say it is not the same to have a OZ call rater then my old OY call. The OY call is as good as a 1 kw amplifier.

We went back to the Faroe Islands in the year 2000. We bought a new house, and I got a new tranciver, a Icom 706 MK ll, and a Butternut vertical antenna, but it only lasted two years.

Here you can see what is left of it. I have repared it several times, but it is not built strong enough to withstand the wind here on the Faroes.

Now I have ordered a Steppir vertical, and will get it one of the comming days. Hope it will withstand the storm during the winter.

I will have pictures later, when I have got the antenna up and working.
